That wasn’t something that one saw every day – a moment of weakness on Sami’s part, a wavering in his always-positive demeanor, maintained in spite of the situations he found himself in. Caused Roman to pause, to reconsider Sami, eyes flicking over his features as if searching for another tell, another indicator of how Sami really felt. What was hidden underneath the stubborn positivity, the optimism that, up until that point, had seemed invincible against the abuses suffered at the hands of Stephanie McMahon, his fellow superstars. Then his smile was back in place and it was as if the lapse in attitude had never happened, except for the fact that Roman couldn’t have forgotten if he’d wanted to now, the image burned into his brain. A scoff, not exactly indignant or skeptical but slightly dubious, even though Sami was right, really. Roman had accomplished a lot in his career; for some reason, though, it didn’t feel like much. It didn’t feel like it was enough, it never did. “You’re not gonna make it long enough to do it all if you keep throwin’ yourself into one ass-whoopin’ after another,” he pointed out, more offhanded than with any real malice. “Look, I get that being careful isn’t your style. I get that you wanna make an impact. You’ve already made waves – you hear how the crowd pops when your music hits, don’t you? – and it’s just a matter of time until you get your hands on a title. But you can’t blame me for wishing you’d get some sort of self-preservation.” A shrug of his shoulders, displaying the palms of his hands to show there were no ill-intentions.

his eyes remain DOWNCAST even as he speaks to him partly because he is in THOUGHT for a response and another part due to his knowledge of the face he would see if he dared glance up. he couldn’t LOOK at roman while he was speaking like this        he knew it would be a stab to his heart to stare up at him right now. sami couldn’t afford to break ——  that wasn’t what he was about, crying and complaining when the going gets tough. besides, this wasn’t THE RIGHT TIME for it because he was in front of someone. now as for the response             ❝     i know it’s dangerous, but i need to show them that i’m not scared of anything.     ❞     his voice is level, easy, and it’s difficult to detect just how MELANCHOLY it really is, the EMPTINESS in it being the only hint to his sadness.     ❝     i need to show them that i can withstand anything. it’s been braun, samoa joe,         and i may not have won those battles, but i didn’t stay down and i didn’t quit. i’m still here. i’m trying to prove that i’m just as good as you and every other top star here and it all starts with showing that i have HEART.     ❞     now, his voice was raised, but he wasn’t yelling, his tone was just slightly upbeat, and he was using hand gestures        habits whenever he got passionate about the point he was trying to get across.     ❝     and i appreciate the concern, but self-preservation isn’t me. i’m going all out        i’m doing EVERYTHING it takes. this is not where i stop. and you know there is no such thing as “self-preservation” in this dangerous business.     ❞
