          ^{Sami had been expecting Nikki to come up with a silly dare and he glared at her, indignantly, when she did. He knew she would probably be able to tell that the glare was just a way to hide his embarrassment and he really wasn’t angry. In fact, he was grateful that there was someone like her around here and the knowledge that someone would be there to heal him should he get seriously injured comforted him–he did not intend to die before his career could reach its peak.       “       Fine, but you gotta do it first.”}

^{Immediately his tongue feels as sandpaper is is his mouth.   And he is a little boy once more  —- staring into the world wondering if it would ever get warmer.   Moments like this made him wish he never met people, never impacted their lives or fell in love with them.   Because no matter what he felt  —  those words never ceased to haunt him.   What if he never made it home?   What if he did?   What if he ruined this and broke his heart?   it was questions like this that stopped him from truly opening up.   it was thoughts like these that caused him to keep people at arms length.}

^{But somehow Finn had wormed his way closer than anyone else had in a very long time.   Sami felt himself wishing he could disappear without a trace from his life to save him the heartbreak he would inevitably cause him.   Whether it was by being too human or just by being himself.  Sami was a failure      he always disappointed, which was the reason he refused to get with Finn in the first place for his own safety, but…Sami decided to try to make it work, and right now, he wasn’t accomplishing anything.   The grip on the phone unconciously got tighter, and he takes a deep breath as an attempt to block the sadness that was threatening to takeover.} 

                 ^{“I miss you too. I’ll be home soon, okay? Just wait for me.”}

       ^{A smile threatens to take over his features in amusement at how riled up she was getting, but he knew now was not the time to do so in a situation like this or else he might end up being on the recieving end of a smack. He took a moment to bite the inside of his cheek to calm the urge.    “Hey, no need to get sassy now. It was just a suggestion. I’m not forcing you to do anything.”}

          ^{At the inquiry, he felt his already leaden heart grow heavier with guilt, and wasn’t able to stop the soft sigh that pushed its way past his lips. His index finger tapped out a nervous rhythm against his knee.    “Didn’t think you’d care, I guess.”    He drawled out, shoulders briefly hoisting up in a shrug.}

      ^{“It doesn’t seem like it’s ‘just a cut’.”    Sami knew he could handle himself  but he didn’t like seeing the wound on his skin regardless. Sighing, he asked,     “So y’gonna get this checked out or what? What were you doin’ anyway?”    He didn’t mean to sound like an overprotective dad, he just cares         too much for his own good, actually.}
